For years my dogs have always just laid on the ground. Getting a camping chair for a dog never even crossed my mind. Then my dog got older and I realized the importance of giving them the best most comfortable experience possible. Today I want to share with you some of the best camping chairs for dogs out there. Whether your dog is large or small breed these elevated dog camping chairs will be great for your pup!
Dogs are so active on camping trips and making sure they have the best options to recover when they are resting is important. The older your dog gets the harder camping is on their joints and muscles. A few years ago I’d say a dog chair for camping was overkill, now I’ll probably never go camping without one again. Even for our young retriever.

This dog camping chair was voted the most luxurious. Not only do you get a high quality elevated camping chair for a dog, but you also get a canopy to create shade. We camp in places that get very little shade and the canopy can really come in handy!
The oxford fabric and steel frame will help make sure this dog cot will last a long time. Your dog should be able to chew on this fabric without it getting a hole or tear.
It’s a mesh design which makes it breathable for good air flow. One of the biggest benefits of an elevated dog bed is good air flow for your pup. This means it will stay cooler in the summer time!
It’s also super easy to tear down and is really portable. It comes with a nice carrying bag making it easy to transport to your camping site.
The only thing that you want to be careful of is the canopy in wind. Make sure if it’s really windy to try and take the removable canopy off. It doesn’t do really well in the wind and can break if not removed under windy conditions.
The canopy is also not waterproof. So, if you are in a rain storm, make sure you have made proper arrangements for your dog to be under the same cover you have made for yourself!
Pros
- High quality fabric & construction.
- Mesh For Good Air Flow
- Easy to set up and take down.
- Very portable with carrying case.
Cons
- Canopy can be vulnerable to high winds.
- Canopy is not water or rain proof.

It comes in a few different sizes depending on the size of your dog. I’m sure that there is a size that first your pup. It also has a really nice range of 8 color options to pick from.
I tried to come up with some things we don’t like about this elevated dog cot, but I really wasn’t able to. It’s very sturdy and reliable and easy to move around. Our dogs love it and use it all the time. Not only camping but also at home. It also helped us train them to stay off our couches.
I can’t recommend this elevated doge bed enough!
Pros
- Mesh fabric gives good air flow.
- Easy assembly and take down.
- Easy to move around, very portable.
- Different size and color options.
Cons

This elevated dog camping chair is a little different. It’s not as firm and has more of a traditional pad. It’s not a super thick pad, which is nice, but it’s enough to provide the dog some additional comfort.
This is a nice pad that can hold up to 100 pounds. This is great but if your dog is over 100 pounds you may want to look at a different dog chair for camping. This bed folds up and can be stored in a carrying case.
The con to the extra padding is that it takes up a little more room when it’s folded up. It’s also a little more vulnerable to your dog chewing it up and spreading some of the stuffing around.
If you have a smaller dog the padding on this elevated dog bed should be super comfortable. For larger dogs I prefer to have the stiffer more firm surface so the dog doesn’t wind up in uncomfortable positions that can be hard on it’s joints.
Overall, this is an awesome bed and is a little less expensive than some of the others. If you have a mid sized or small dog, this should be perfect!
Pros
- Comfortable cushion.
- Very portable and light.
- Light weight and easy to move around.
- Great for small to medium dogs.
- Affordable.
Cons
- Cushion is comfy but can reduce air flow and gets dirty easily.
- When folded up, a little bulkier than some of the others.
- Not for dogs 100 pounds plus.
YEP HHO Large Elevated Mesh Pet Cot

If this elevated dog bed was just a little bit more affordable, it would have been in our top 3. It’s really one of the nicer elevated dog beds on the list but when it came to value it was hard to put it there just because it’s a bit more expensive.
Overall, this is a great camping chair for dogs. It has a really nice high quality mesh fabric that allows maximum air flow for your dog. The material seems really strong and resilient to the dog chewing on it.
One of the best things about this elevated dog chair is that you don’t have to assemble and take down, it folds up. You can just fold it up and store it in the carry case to take it on the camping trip.
It has a couple different size options, for a medium sized and large dog. There are many color options include a camo, which is pretty fun. Its nice and compact and easy to move from room to room at only about 14 pounds.
The only con to this dog chair is the frame seems a bit susceptible to ware and tear. There are some reports of people having issues with pieces braking after a few months. Most people don’t’ seem to have any problems, but there are some people that have had issues.
Pros
- Great air flow with mesh design.
- Light weight and portable.
- Sets up and folds down without any assembly.
- Fabric on top seems very high quality.
Cons
- Reported issues of frame having parts fail.

This is another elevated dog camping chair that has a canopy to keep your pup out of the hot sun. The mesh top is breathable and will help keep them cool by allowing maximum air flow. It’s really easy to assemble and take down making it portable and easy to move from room to room or taking it camping.
There are a few different sizes but this particular model can hold up to 120 pounds. This actually holds a larger dog than some of the others on this list. This might actually be the best option if you have an abnormally large dog.
The top is durable fabric and seems like it would be hard for your dog to really damage, even if they having a chewing problem. The steel frame seems solid and should hold up well as long as your dog us 120 pounds and under.
The only thing you have to be careful of is the canopy in the wind. It can be damaged if left up in windy situations. The canopy does a great job providing shade but is not water proof. If you are going to be in the rain make sure to make arrangements for your pup to also be kept dry. This will ward away a few raindrops but won’t keep the rain off your pup in a storm.
Pros
- Canopy keeps dog out of hot sun.
- Light weight and portable.
- Sets up and folds down without any assembly.
- Frame is sturdy and fabric is durable.
Cons
- Canopy is susceptible to wind and is not water proof.

If you have a really big dog this is probably the camping dog chair for you. This hammock style chair for your dog can actually hold up to 200 pounds. If you have a huge dog, this might be your best options.
The trade off for it holding the larger weight is it’s not nearly as porbable. It’s a much larger overall pet cot and won’t be quite as portable as some of the others. The assembly is pretty straight forward and simple, but it might take up more room in the truck when you take it camping.
If you need a large camping chair for your dog that will hold your large dog or maybe you have 2 medium sized dogs that enjoy laying together, this will likely be the chair you want to pick.
It comes in 3 different sizes ranging from medium to x-large. They also offer a unique option for packaging. You can select a retail box or a recyclable box, which is pretty neat!
Pros
- Best option for larger dogs.
- Holds up to 200 pounds.
- Assembly is simple.
- Sturdy frame and durable fabric.
Cons
- The tradeoff for holding more weight is a larger chair that isn’t as light or portable as other options.

What Are The Benefits Of Elevated Dog Chairs & Beds
There are many benefits for an elevated dog bed. These benefits are not just for when your camping but also for your home. Today I will go over all the benefits of an elevated dog bed for camping and at home! Elevated dog beds are a worthy investment and it will probably make you happy to know they are great for home use on top of being easy to take camping!
The main benefits of an elevated dog bed are as follows, I will expand on each below.
- Firm Orthopedic Support
- Easier To Laydown & Get Up
- Bed Stuffing Is Messy And Unhealthy For Your Dog
- Lighter Weight More Portable
- Better Air Flow Keeps Your Pup Cool
- Easier To Clean
- Keep Your Dog Off The Ground Away From Pests
- Robot Vacuum Friendly
1. Firm Orthopedic Support
A firm even and raised dog bed provides great support across your pets entire body. This can help take pressure off other joints that may often get force on them when the pet is not laying with their weight evenly distributed. The fluffy dog beds on the floor are soft at first but do not help your dog distribute their weight evenly across all their joints.
2. Easier To Laydown & Get Up
When older dogs get arthritis it can become harder and harder for them to get comfortable by moving positions. When they lay on the floor they have to get up and lay back down, which can be hard on their joints. A raised dog bed allows them to easily get up and lay down without having to get up from the floor or drop all the way down to the floor.
3. Bed Stuffing Is Bad News
Raised beds are taut and are comfortable as opposed to using stuffing for comfort. Dogs love chewing on stuffed dog beds. They can make a huge mess and the stuffing can be cause health problems if ingested. Gastrointestinal obstruction can be extremely deadly without treatment. Elevated dog beds typically do not have any kind of stuffing and are much more resilient to dogs trying to chew on them. The frame is typically steel and the fabric is usually a tough fabric that dogs are not tempted to chew on.
4. Lighter Weight & More Portable
It’s really easy to move an elevated dog bed. Most of them break down and store in a to go bag. If you want to take it camping or for a day on the beach, it’s really easy to bring with you. The stuffed dog beds are heavy and take up a lot of room and can be awkward to move around. If you have to ever put your dog in an uncomfortable situation for dog sitting or a dog lodging area, having their bed with them gives them something familiar.
5. Keep Your Pup Cool With Better Air Flow
Most of these elevated camping dog chairs have a mesh fabric on the top. Being off the ground allows air flow under the bed and to come up under the dog. The mesh is more breathable and helps keep your pup cool in the summer time. If you get an elevated dog bed with a canopy, you can even keep your pup in the shade!
6. Easier To Clean
The mesh fabric used on most elevated dog beds is really easy to clean. If it’s attached to the frame, you can spray it off with a hose. If it comes off, most can be washed in a washing machine. The stuffed dog beds absorb all the dirt from your dog and they have to washed. Usually removing the stuffing and washing the cover. They are hard to keep clean. Elevated dog beds are much easier to keep clean and don’t absorb near the dirt that the stuffed beds do.
7. Keep Your Dog Off The Ground Away From Pests
Most elevated dog beds keep your dog somewhere from 8-12 inches off the ground. If your dog has a flea problem or maybe you are in an area that has a lot of ticks, this will help keep them separated from them. There are all kinds critters, insects and disease that can be on the ground. Keeping them elevated and away from it can be a huge benefit for your pup.
8. Robot Vacuum Friendly
With the elevated design, your robot vacuum should be able to glide right under your dog bed and clean up the floor. This isn’t a huge benefit but definitely something to consider!
Downfalls Of Having A Raised Dog Bed
I think it would be unfair to talk about all the benefits and not highlight some of the downfalls of having an elevated dog chair for camping or at home. Although I think the benefits really outweigh the downfalls, there are a few things you should consider when buying an elevated dog bed.
- Although some are designed to just unfold like a camping chair. Some of these steel frame elevated dog beds do need some assembly. Sometimes the fabric can be hard to stretch to get the frame attached. Most people can probably get them together alone but some might need a little help.
- Many elevated dog beds do not sell replacement covers. Although you may be able to work with the manufacturer to see if they would replace the fabric, if they are not willing to work with you, a new bed would have to be purchased.
- Elevated dog beds are a little more limited when it comes to styles and colors. This isn’t a big deal for some but can be a problem for others. The more custom and nice they look the more expensive they get. Most places that sell elevated dog beds just have a few color options.
- Your dog may have an injury or impediment that makes it difficult for them to use a raised bed. A blind dog for example would find it difficult to get on and off a raised bed. You know your dog best and probably know whether an elevated dog chair would be good for them.
- If your dog is pregnant it might be time to put the elevated bed away. A momma dog is better off being on the floor on a soft pad or bed so she can be with her pups. Even before she gives birth, it might be easier and more comfortable for her to be on the ground on a pad. Most of the time, younger dogs are pregnant so joint health is usually not as big of an issue. After the pups get a little bigger you can bring her favorite elevated dog bed back out!
